The Centre for Life in Newcastle is all about providing an enjoyable, educational experience for adults and children. Science is a fascinating subject, and the centre brings it to life with interactive displays, exhibitions and activities. The centre attracts 200,000 visitors every year and incorporates a research utility, which focuses on stem cell technology, climate change and other important subjects.
With the centre being so busy, disabled access is an essential requirement. A new exhibition on human origins and future meant renovating existing buildings. A new platform lift was worked into the designs to improve access facilities. With a catalogue of experience, expertise and satisfied customers, movemanSKG was selected for the job.
Maureen Dixon-Berne, Press Officer at the Centre for Life, said "The service from movemanSKG was outstanding and far exceeded our expectations. The installation was completed quickly and efficiently, and the product was of first class quality."
The requirements were for an enclosed lift, which was compact enough to fit in the allotted space, yet big enough to be comfortable for the user. Because many exhibits in the centre are push button operated, the lift needed to be converted to key access to prevent confusion. It was decided that the Prestige, one of movemanSKG’s most popular models, was the lift best suited to the application.
The Prestige will travel up to heights of nine metres and has a load capacity of 400kg. It has its own integral shaft, requires no wall or supporting structure and can be adapted to fit most applications. A handsome lift, it can be finished to blend in with any environment. Reliable, safe and user friendly, it also comes with the option of powered doors.
