Salford-based Forest Sofa, a leading UK upholstery furniture company, is enjoying a period of unprecedented growth. This is set to continue with the manufacturing industry enjoying a strong economic recovery across the country. Facing increasing business demands, Forest Sofa spent £400,000 extending its warehouse and adding a mezzanine floor to create extra storage space.

Forest Sofa needed a way of moving heavy furniture to the storage mezzanine from its ground floor production area. A robust goods lift was the perfect solution so Marshall (Building Contractors) Ltd from Elland, the construction firm that carried out the extension, put out a tender. movemanSKG beat off the competition because its quote was the best value for money.

After reviewing Forest Sofa’s specification, movemanSKG recommended its Titan goods lift, a freestanding unit capable of lifting 1000kg 13m. Titan is ideal for safety conscious companies that need to transport large or awkwardly shaped loads, such as furniture, between levels without putting their staff at risk.

The client quickly agreed and movemanSKG moved in to install the lift. Time was limited and movemanSKG had to work as efficiently as possible and coordinate its team around the building site, where other work was taking place. The completed Titan travels four metres between the two floors.

However, there were challenges to be overcome, as Steve Simpson, Quantity Surveyor at Marshall’s, explains: “There were a few complications when it came to accommodating the lift due to the limited space but I am happy to say we resolved these by adapting the design. I am impressed with Titan, as was the client, it is a solid product. We would definitely use movemanSKG again.”

Titan features simple push-button controls mounted within a carriage console and the doorframes on each floor, which facilitate quick and easy operation. It has a large platform that can accommodate palletised loads and comes with inclusive service visits in the first year of ownership.
