Primary school turns to movemanSKG

St Michael & St John’s RC Primary School in Clitheroe, Lancashire recently spent upwards of £140,000 renovating its premises to ensure compliance with the Equality Act. This specifies that public buildings must be accessible to everyone, including people with mobility impairments.

Local building contractor W.Monks (Longridge) Ltd, a firm with over 50 years of experience, managed the project. Lancashire County Council and the school’s headmaster specified two high end Domuslifts from specialist lift supplier movemanSKG.

“The school wanted platform lifts that blended well with the refurbished building,” said Michael Monks, Director at W. Monks (Longridge) Ltd. “Domuslift is enormously versatile and has a high quality finish that meets and exceeds the school’s requirements.”

movemanSKG installed two Domuslifts. Both are two stop units travelling between three and four metres. One serves the hall from playground level and the other allows wheelchair users to reach extra classrooms on the first floor. They have a clean white finish and run almost silently without disturbing children in class.

Although movemanSKG and W. Monks (Longridge) Ltd installed the platform lifts quickly and efficiently, the school is housed in the original support buildings for St Michael and St John's Catholic church, which created several building challenges, as Mr Monks explains:

“We had issues with ground and foundation conditions, which meant adapting the existing building structure to accommodate the lifts. We also had to cut the lift shafts between the supporting floors and reroute the electrics. We overcame these challenges through careful communication between all parties.”

St Michael & St John’s RC Primary School is so impressed with Domuslift it has ordered another unit from movemanSKG, this one a Premier Plus stair lift which is due for installation soon.
