moveman Are Top Of The Class!

movemanSKG, the UK's leading supplier of wheelchair lifts, has proved that it is top of the class at Oadby Manor High School in Oadby, Leicestershire. The company recently completed the successful installation of a specially sized platform lift to enable a young pupil to gain access to the library from certain classrooms.

Applying their extensive knowledge and experience of platform lifts, moveman provided a unique solution for the school by supplying a platform lift with a specially oversized platform.

Until the lift was installed, a height difference of 910mm separated some classrooms from the school's library. This was sufficient to deny access to the young female pupil, who has breathing difficulties. With a platform measuring 1600mm x 1200mm, the platform lift was specifically designed to allow sufficient space for the girl, her breathing apparatus and her nurse.

Property Services of Leicester County Council Resource Department, who placed the order with moveman , were impressed with the speed and ease of the lift's installation and Trevor Cooke commented: "moveman were very professional, advised us on the requirements for the lift and then won the tender with a very competitive quote. Their workmanship was to a very high standard."

Chris Fretter, Site Manager at the school was equally praiseworthy: "The school is very pleased with work undertaken by moveman . The lift was installed over the Easter Holidays with the minimum disruption and it's made life much easier for the student concerned."

moveman designed the platform lift for the specific school environment, which presents certain unusual problems. Firstly a designated user control system was fitted. This prevents the lift from being used as a toy or a hiding place in games. Thirty seconds after the lift has stopped being used it will automatically move away from the level at which it is parked and stop between landings. This has the effect of locking the doors at every level. The only way the lift car can then be accessed it by calling it using the key lock, and this can only be done by key holders. The lift was also fitted with an infra-red sensor that turns off the lift's lights when the unit is not in use.

As with all moveman products, the lift was fabricated to meet the most stringent safety standard, codes and machinery directives. Fully complying with all relevant UK and European legislation it certainly scores ten out of ten with Oadby High School!
