Housing Association Takes DDA Seriously

movemanSKG has supplied a wheelchair lift to Parkhead Housing Association for its headquarters in Glasgow. The unit is part of a two-storey £500,000 extension project. It allows people with disabilities to reach offices and a boardroom on the building’s first floor.

Parkhead Housing Association was established in July 1977 as one of Scotland's first community based housing associations. From its first acquisition in 1977 it now has a stock of almost 1,400 new and refurbished properties for rent in the east end of Glasgow. The company has previously spent over £100,000 a year on platform lifts, ramps, handrails and other equipment to make its homes accessible to the less able, so its dedication to wheelchair-friendly offices comes as no surprise.

Andy Duffus, Development & Regeneration Manager, is positive; "We had a DDA evaluation carried out on the newly refurbished premises and followed most of its recommendations. With movemanSKG’s platform lift in place, less able employees or visitors can attend meetings and work in the first floor’s new offices. Parkhead Housing Association’s Prestige is built in a brick shaft. A two-stop unit, it travels nearly three metres between the two landings and carries 400kg. The lift has a platform big enough to accommodate a wheelchair user plus an attendant.
