After undergoing a major refurbishment, Chippenham’s Salvation Army Hall re-opened in September to offer the surrounding community many newly created facilities.
The busy church building offers a variety of services for over 200 members of the public each week, including luncheon clubs for the elderly and refuge for the homeless. The extensive renovation has created many new amenities for locals, such as shower services, an IT training room, plus disabled access and facilities.
movemanSKG’s Companion Extreme for comfortable, safe and easy access into the hall replaced a steep ramp with steps leading into the building. This ramp used to prevent wheelchair users from entering the Hall unaided and created a barrier to independent access for the disabled.
The Companion Extreme platform lift is designed for independent use and is a freestanding unit that can be floor or pit mounted inside or outside a building. Both the upper and lower gates are power operated and are electrically and mechanically interlocked. Travelling up to a height of two metres and with a load capacity of 300kg, it can easily cater for a wheelchair user and an accompanying person.
The Salvation Army’s external model benefits from a soft rubberised shroud over the call buttons to stop dust and dirt clogging the buttons and water getting into the housing, making it able to withstanding the harshest of weather conditions, without operation being affected.
"I was surprised at how quickly the lift appeared as it only took two days to install! It works extremely well and I am really pleased with it. An elderly lady in a wheelchair uses the lift on a weekly basis and thinks that it is a much welcomed improvement - it makes visits to the hall a much more pleasant experience for her and other wheelchair users when they come to join in the community events and various functions that take place."
Captain Mary Wolfe, Commanding Officer, Chippenham Corps.
Proving to be fundamental at Chippenham’s Salvation Army Hall, the Companion Extreme platform lift is secure, reliable, and robust.
